New Year’s Goals

I know this post has been done by most bloggers a few weeks ago, and that I am a little behind, but it’s still technically January so I don’t feel bad for posting it.

This year Ben and I did our New Year’s goals a little different. First off we set our goals a week and a half after the year started, and we also made an excellent plan for success! (Seriously I am so proud of us.)

We started off by looking at a list of goals from a handout I got in relief society when I was visiting Arizona called "Pursuit of Excellence." It had several categories like spirtual building goals, goals that increase knowledge,  goals that promote health and fitness, goals to increase your ability to serve, and goals to increase moral stength.  Each category had 10-15 goals. Ben and I went through and came up with 3-4 goals from each category that we thought we would want to work on for the year. We then went through and saw which ones we had both picked and put them in the “LeSueur Family Goal’s” list and we then took the remaining goals for each of us and put them in our “Personal Goal’s” list.
Afterward we came up with a plan to help us check in on our goals to monitor ourselves and our success throughout the year. We decided to write all three lists on the back of our BIGmonthly calendar.  We thought this was perfect because each week during FHE we take the calendar down and write all the things we have for the upcoming week and discuss any issues we might have.  So by adding our 2013 Goal’s to the back we would be able to check in and see them each week and make sure we are working hard.
Our calendar that hangs on our front door.

The back of the calendar complete with:
LeSueur Family Goals
Ben's Personal Goals &Lauri's personal goals
and
Our gifts to Jesus Christ (promises we made at Christmas time)

The last step we took for our “Plan to Success” is we then went through our calendar and wrote down FHE topics for each week throughout the year. This way we knew what our lesson would be on and we coordinated the lessons with our goals so that each of our goals should come up at least once during the year. We will then have a lesson on that topic to reinvigorate ourselves and ensure we are not slacking.
See how our Monday's are all filled out. :)

We ended up with 20 “LeSueur Family goals” and about 12 “personal goals” each.  We realize that we will probably not succeed 100%, but by coming up with a plan to check up on our goals throughout the year rather than looking at a paper we tucked away 12 months earlier, we think we will be able to accomplish so much more and become much better people.
Wish us luck! We hope you also have success with your New Year’s Resolutions.
I am going to end this post with a quote i recieved in the same Relief Society lesson I got that awesome list of goals.
"When performance is measured, performance improves. When performance is measured and reported, the rate of improvment accelerates."
